WHAT I DID WHEN GETTING ECZEMA/ATOPIC DERMATITIS
I'm not a dermatologist or an expert at curing skin's problems, I write this post to share with you guys about my personal experience on how I took care of my skin during the time I got allergy, so I advised you to go meet doctors so as to have a serious check rather than totally follow my skincare routine.
Well, the thing is I already have genetic predisposition to be allergic, it came from both of my parents. But mine is seafood allergy, a little bit different from theirs.
I'm not allergic to all kinds of seafood but just a few, so I have to try to eat some to find out which one will trigger my allergy. But I got confused with red tuna. I ate sashimi made from red tuna 2 times, the second time is much more later than the first one (about a year). The first time I ate it, nothing wrong's happened but the second (and maybe the last) time, it was terrible. This time the symptoms weren't located all over my body but only on my face, my ears and my neck. They are swollen, itchy, flaky, red, irritating and the symptoms lasted for a weeks, not just a few days as I had ever experienced. I took antihistamines, ok, let's put this medicine stuff aside, I will not talk more about this cos this is doctors' stuff, I just wanna let you guys know that people who got allergic symptoms often ought to take antihistamines (by doctor's receipts).
Let's talk about taking care the skin. As I said, my skin was at it bad condition during the allergic time. It wouldn't stop being flaky, itchy days and nights. It was so sensitive that I was scared to put anything on my face. Two opposite ideas came to my mind: 1/ not putting anything product on my face until my allergic symptoms went away, but it was dangerous cos without good care, my skin would get damaged after all these finished torturing my skin (sorry if I exaggerated it) but I just wanted to scratch my skin to get rid of these itchy feelings.
2/ finding something that is mild and safe enough to soothe my skin. I did some searches on the Internet and asked my friends, who are medical students on what I should use. Finally, I ended up using these things:
HONEY- as you guys here know about benefits of honey, I really trust it to take care of my delicate face and neck skin. I use it after washing my face and neck with Clinique face wash at night. On the morning, I just washed my face and neck with water and spray with Evian facial spray afterwards. Then, I applied a thick layer of Eucerin Aquaphor Healing Ointment without worrying it would clog pores and finish with my well-trusted La roche posay sunscreen. The most important things to keep in mind is never let your skin be dry, always apply safe emollient stuffs and drink plenty of water to keep your body and your skin hydrating. One thing worth mentioning is not to take a long bath, instead, you should take a quick shower with tepid/lukewarm water and shower less often, and don't let your skin expose to strong wind. Apart from these things, please mind your diet as well, eat more veggies, fruits, less meats less spicy foods. Me, even ate just like a vegetarian during my allergic time.
I'm not lying, but after my allergic symptoms went away, my skin are now at better condition, not only comparing to the time I got eczema/atopic dermatitis but also to the time before I delicately took care of my skin. So I decided to add these methods of skincare into my daily routine (of course with some adjustments to fit the current skin condition).
I would love to hear you sharing about your experiences in taking care of your eczema/atopic dermatitis, please comment or ask in comments below. Have a nice day, everyone!
